Chuck Gassaway

Longtime Ajijic resident Chuck Gassaway died in his Cary, North Carolina home on March 24, surrounded by his family members.

Born May 8, 1929, Gassaway was a graduate of the University of New Mexico. He married Patsy Ruth Perkins on August 25, 1951 and they were happily married until the day he died.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy and then had a career as an engineer for Spreckles Sugar and, later, the Clorox Corporation.

After retirement, Gassaway traveled North America in an RV for several years until deciding to settle in Ajijic. There he was active in the Pescadores de Ajijic, the Navy League and the Ham Radio Club and was facilities director for Lakeside Little Theatre.

In 2009, health concerns caused him to move back to the United States where he continued to miss his Lakeside friends.
