UN-Habitat to aid local authorities

Governor Aristoteles Sandoval has signed an agreement with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to improve urban development in Jalisco.
UN-Habitat representative Eduardo Lopez Moreno said the ever-expanding Guadalajara metropolitan area is in a bad state and the public transport system has worsened, rather than solved the problem. Therefore, he said, it is essential to establish a development plan which includes not only the metropolitan municipalities, but the entire region.
“In the last 20 years, the city of Guadalajara has grown three times more than it needed to and it did not have to be this way,” Lopez said.
