Motors will be revved up this weekend as the next round of the Super Copa TELCEL storms into town for the third consecutive year.

This is auto racing at its purest. The drivers all use 301-horse-powered Seat Leon cars, so the most skillful generally come out on top.

The drama takes place at the Autodromo de Toluquilla, located on Adolfo B. Horn, a few kilometers south of the southern city beltway, (Periferico) to one end of the city airport’s runway.
Practice and qualification is scheduled for Saturday, June 8, starting at 10 a.m., while the two races take place on Sunday, June 9, from 10 a.m.

Most eyes will be focused on Ricardo Perez de Lara, champion in the event’s first two years, who leads this year’s series.

To get to the Toluquilla circuit from Lake Chapala take the turnoff to Cajititlan from the Chapala-Guadalajara highway, drive through Cajititlan and after 1.5 kilometers (in Cuescomatitlan) turn right onto what will eventually become Adolfo B. Horn. The distance to the autodrome from Cuescomatitlan is about ten kilometers.

Paseo Chapultepec

This Saturday’s (June 8) Paseo Chapultepec, held each week on Avendia Chapultepec, will be dedicated to nature in honor of World Environment Day (June 5). Traffic on the busy avenue will be diverted from  5 p.m., as children’s workshops are held from  6 p.m., followed by African dance (7 p.m.), ecological film shows (8 p.m.). Crowds will thicken as the evening progresses to hear music of various genres, including blues, rock and Latin rhythms.

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico may be an unincorporated territory of the United States but how many people know much about its culture and way of life.

Puerto Rico is the next invited country to Zapopan’s “Andador Multicultural” event, scheduled Saturday, June 15 in the pedestrian  walkway leading up to the Plaza de las Americas (Hidalgo and Eva Briseño) in Zapopan Centro.

This free event offers a great opportunity to learn about this island nation’s traditions, and experience some of its music and dance. You will also get the chance to taste many Puerto Rican culinary delights.
