Getting down & dirty at Chapala mud fest

Hundreds of off-road enthusiasts roared into Chapala last Sunday to mix it up in the mud at the area’s first Festival del Lodo. 

While scores of contestants chose to race on a prepared track, many others tested their mettle scrambling along the mucky shoreline. Like the hapless lads photographed here, more than a few discovered a whole new meaning of the phrase “stuck in the mud.”  Between bold drivers, a few impromptu mud wrestlers and a throng of amused spectators, the event pulled an estimated crowd of 3,000 swamp freaks.
