Doctors too hasty to prescribe antibiotics

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that doctors in Mexico are too quick to prescribe antibiotics to their patients.

This “irrational” overuse of antibiotics leads to bacteria growing increasingly resistant to such treatment, the WHO report said. Higher bacterial resistance in turn leads to longer hospital stays, increased costs of health care and even increased mortality rates.
