Insuring a car in the metro areas of Guadalajara, Monterrey or Mexico City costs double what it would in smaller cities like Merida or Aguascalientes.
Three of the most popular models: VW Jetta, Honda Civic and Ford Lobo pickup saw insurance cost differences from 40 to 100 percent in Mexico City and Aguascalientes.
In Guadalajara a full coverage policy by ABA Seguros for a 2011 Honda Civic was quoted at 13,039 pesos. The same insurance in Aguascalientes was 6,625 pesos and in Merida, 6,588 pesos. Insurance for a 2011 VW Jetta with full coverage in Guadalajara was quoted at 13,797 pesos and in Aguascalientes 8,720 pesos; in Merida 9,499 pesos. Full coverage for a 2012 Ford Lobo in Guadalajara costs 23,835 pesos, but in Aguascalientes only 15,974 pesos and in Merida 18,469 pesos.
