FBI 'Most Wanted' fugitive detained in Guadalajara

Mexican Federal Police agents have detained in Guadalajara a Los Angeles gang member who has been on the FBI's list of Ten Most Wanted Fugitives since October 2009.

Jose Luis "Joe" Saenz, 37, is wanted for allegedly shooting and killing two rival gang members in Los Angeles in July 1998. Less than two weeks later he allegedly kidnapped, raped, and murdered his girlfriend. Additionally, Saenz is also a suspect for a 2008 murder in Whittier, California.

A spokesperson for the Federal Police said the arrest was made on Thursday, November 22 in the Jalisco capital after close collaboration between U.S. and Mexican law enforcement agencies.

Some previous reports suggested Saenz was working as an enforcer for a Mexican drug cartel during his time in this country.

The FBI offers a reward of 100,000 dollars for information leading to the arrest of fugitives on their most wanted list.

Mexican authorities are expected to deport Saenz to California, where he will face various charges dating back to 1997.
