Now they’ll be snapping you running reds

As of Monday, October 15, the Jalisco Department of Transport (SVT) will begin operating six cameras at major Guadalajara intersections to take photographs of drivers running red lights.

Guilty parties will have their license plates recorded and a fine of 480 pesos will be duly sent to the address where their vehicle is registered.

The camera systems have been installed at a cost of almost 5.7 million pesos.

The cameras will be positioned at the following intersections:

- Avenida Mariano Otero & Obsidiana.

- Avenida Patria & Alberta.

- Avenida Patria & Pablo Neruda.

- Avenida Dr. R. Michel & Rio Reforma.

- Avenida Lopez Mateos & Jesus Garcia.

- Avenida Avila Camacho & La Presa.

The SVT fined 37,421 drivers for not stopping at red lights between January and September of this year.

The SVT’s speed cameras installed last year on the Periferico (city beltway) have proved to be a huge success, both financially for the department and in reducing the number of fatalities on this busy and dangerous highway.
