Scientology coming to Guadalajara

The controversial Church of Scientology has applied to open a place of worship in Guadalajara’s Colonia Americana.

The religion has had a presence in Mexico since 1960. This would be the first Scientologist church in Guadalajara and its 12th in the country.

Founded by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard in 1952, Scientology boasts a number of famous converts, including Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Juliette Lewis and Priscilla Presley.
Hubbard’s formation of Scientology inspired the movie “The Master,” which stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix and was released in the United States and Canada this month.
