The American Society (Amsoc) will celebrate U.S. Independence Day and Canada Day with a joint luncheon/party on Saturday, July 6.

On the menu will be beef or chicken burgers with all the fixings. Other delights include baked French Fries and ice cream.

As always, there will be some great raffle prizes. Doors open 12:30 p.m. The cost for members is 100 pesos; guests and purchase at the door is 120 pesos. Children 12 and under pay 50 pesos. Participate in karaoke after the meal.

Fiesta in Tlaquepaque

The Fiestas of San Pedro Tlaquepaque have a family-oriented focus this year, beginning with a low 30-peso entrance price for the event held at the Expo Ganadero through July 7. This includes unlimited use of 35 rides. Entertainment includes clowns, jugglers, magicians, dance groups and occasionally the Voladores de Papantla (flyers). Musical groups will play at two different venues at the fairgrounds. Expo Ganadero is located on the Glorieta El Alamo where Avenida Lazaro Cardenas intersects with the highway to Chapala.

Tour Tlaquepaque

Tlaquepaque is also offering free tours of the main points of the artisan zone of San Pedro daily during July and August. The tours, in both English and Spanish, are at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and leave from the tourism module located at the Pila Seca also known as the Plazoleta del Arte, between calles Morelos and Ejercito.

Tourism fair downtown

More than 80 stands representing tourism providers throughout Jalisco will be set up in Plaza Liberacion this weekend. Hotels, restaurants, haciendas, water parks, theme parks museums and some 32 Jalisco municipalities will be represented at the fair. Summer packages and specials will be available. Colima will also be represented at the event. During the three days of the festival (June 28 to 30) a variety of artistic options will be visible and audible.

Music includes traditional mariachi from Son y Fandango, pop music by Marion and fusion by Score Bolero Jazz Project. The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

State offers low-cost excursions


The Jalisco tourism department is also offering 21 special low-budget summer excursions to both beach towns like Barra de Navidad, Melaque y Cuestecomates, and rural villages including: Tecalitlán, Gómez Farías, Ciudad Guzmán, Arandas, Jesús María, Puerto Vallarta, Tapalpa and Atemajac de Brizuela. 

In another program, free transportation to and from Guadalajara is offered to low income families to Tepatitlán, Chapala, Jocotepec, Cocula, Ejutla, Tuxpan, Atenquique y Zapotlanejo. To participate, families must register for a lottery for the 24 trips offered for up to four people.
