Aristoteles Sandoval has gone back on a campaign promise and will be moving his family into the Jalisco governor’s official residence in Guadalajara, the Casa Jalisco.
The reason for the change of heart, he said, was that increased security around his own house was proving disruptive for his neighbors.
Economic considerations also played a part in the decision, the governor added. The Casa Jalisco is still being used for official functions and requires a full-time staff. By living in the building with his family, the governor said he would actually be reducing costs by not doubling up on security staff.
Sandoval promised not to use government funds on renovations to the property, as many of his predecessors have done.
The Casa Jalisco and its grounds take up an entire block on Manuel Acuña at the corner of Avenida Lopez Mateos.
