HSBC gets strict

Any business that wishes to open an account with HSBC must now show proof that it has paid its annual taxes, according to a report in a Guadalajara Spanish-language daily.

According to the report in Mural, no other bank as yet asks to see a tax declaration, only requiring legal proof of the business’ existence.  HSBC Mexico has been in the international spotlight of late, after last year paying 1.92 billion dollars in fines to U.S. authorities for allowing drug cartels to launder 900 million dollars.
