Inspectors run off tower builders

Inspectors from Chapala’s regulations office and local police are keeping a watchful eye on the Rancho del Oro site where a cellular phone transmission tower has been under construction.

Alerted once again by wary Mexican and expatriate residents, the authorities ran off a crew of workers who showed up twice on Saturday, January 11 to continue the project. The men said their boss was arranging to have the city rescind a recently issued shut-down order.  In denying that story, officials at the department of urban planning report that they have never been approached to issue a building permit for the tower project, which in any case would not be allowed in a residential area.
