Chapala celebrates Mexico’s Navy Day

Chapala’s Captania de Puerto (Harbormaster’s office) marked the June 1 commemoration of the Dia de la Marina (Navy Day) with a traditional ceremony held at the waterfront Malecon, followed by boating excursion to pay tribute to local men who have lost their lives in the waters of Lake Chapala.
Port Captain Luis Jorge Ochoa presided at the event, accompanied by Mayor Joaquin Huerta, Gilberto Basulto Rivera, president of the local tour boat cooperative, Denny Strole representing the Lake Chapala council of the U.S. Navy League, pro-lake political activist Manuel Villagomez and other dignitaries.
