All smiles for bosom budies

Jalisco Governor Aristoteles Sandoval (left) joins in the applause for Tonatuih Padilla, after he is sworn in as the new rector of the Universidad de Guadalajara (UDG), the second largest public university in Mexico.

The relationship between the two should be close: the UDG is Sandoval’s alma mater and the university’s powerful elite backed him in last year’s election.  Sandoval immediately promised to lobby the federal government for additional funding for the university, which does not charge students tuition fees.
