State cops give abused pooch new lease on life

A badly abused dog is starting a new life as part of the canine squad of the Jalisco Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General del Estado or FGE).

In August last year, a student posted a video on social media of “Foxy” being kicked by two men and subsequently deliberately set upon by a bull terrier that had been trained for illegal dog fights.  The video taken in a neighborhood of Tlaquepaque went viral and led to the arrest and prosecution of the two men, aged 43 and 27.

After a period of rehabilitation, “Foxy” has been incorporated into FGE ranks, but will not be used as a sniffer dog to search for narcotics  and other illegal substances.  Instead, the gentle canine will be taken on the road by police officers participating in events at schools under the umbrella of the state’s D.A.R.E. program designed to prevent drug abuse by youth.

Interestingly, “Canela,” the dog that was obliged to attack “Foxy,” was also taken under the wing of the FGE canine squad. It is not known exactly how she will be used.
