Spring is here

There’s no denying spring has sprung. The jacarandas are in full bloom, the butterflies are frolicking among the bougainvillea, kitties (and possums) are calling to each other for a little lovin’.

Another sure sign is snowbirds packing up and trying to figure out where to abandon the pets they adopted last fall when they arrived. One woman walked up to me and asked if I wanted her dog. I asked why she wanted to give it away. “I’m headed back home and I can’t take her,” she said. I asked her why she adopted the pooch in the first place. “Dogs on a leash are like man magnets,” she said. “You’d be amazed how well it works to meet new people.”

Moral: If you want to increase your social life, find a bar, go to church, work in a charity and don’t use a poor, dependent little animal for your gratification. If you adopt one it should be yours forever.
