Mariachi festival update

Guadalajara’s 19th International Mariachi and Charreria Festival takes place from August 29 until September 9.

The prestigious festival entails concerts, galas, conferences, theater, and book and film presentations, with the main event, the Mariachi Parade along Avenida 16 de Septiembre, scheduled for Sunday, September 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Expect floats, dancers, acrobats, rodeo and, of course, mariachis.

Mexico finest mariachis will be there, accompanied by mariachis from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, France, Panama, Slovakia, the United States and Venezuela.

Galas are scheduled for August 31, 8 p.m. (Teatro Degollado); September 1, 8.30 p.m. (Auditorio Telmex with Lila Downs, Natalia Lafourcade, Maria Jose and Ely Guerra); September 3, 8 p.m. (Teatro Diana, including Amelia Hernandez’s Ballet Folklorico from Mexico City); September 4, 5 p.m. (Aula Magna UAG); September 4-8, 8 p.m. (Teatro Degollado); and September 9, 5 p.m. (Plaza las Americas, Zapopan with the Zapopan Philharmonic Orchestra).

Three or four international groups will perform in Ajijic September 1 at la Huerta de Serna in Ajijic.
