The “Fiesta de las Americas” is finally over, with Brazil claiming first place in the 2011 Parapan American Games after an impressive haul of 81 golds and 197 medals in total.

President Felipe Calderon attended the closing ceremony at Guadalajara’s Telmex Athletics Stadium on Sunday evening, bringing an end to over a month of sporting activity, which also included the 16th Pan American Games in October.

“Thanks to all the paralympic athletes for demonstrating to us all that there are no barriers to our dreams, for they have shown us there are no limits for human beings with heart and willpower,” said Calderon, who also thanked the people of Guadalajara and Jalisco for their hospitality and generosity.
