The NFL playoffs kick off this weekend with the wildcard round. The run-up to the biggest sporting event in North America, the Super Bowl, features 12 of the league’s 32 teams.
The NFC looks tough this year, with last year’s Superbowl champion, the 15-1 Green Bay Packers leading the way. The NFC also showcases 2009 champions the New Orleans Saints completing an eight-game win streak to finish their regular season and the league’s staunchest rushing defense in the San Francisco 49ers.
The AFC is a little spottier, with only two teams (the Ravens and the Steelers) showing positive win ratios against other playoff-qualifying teams this year. Tom Brady leads the New England Patriots to their eighth playoff appearance in his nine seasons as the team’s quarterback.
After this round, winning teams move on to the Divisional Round, then the Conference Championships, and finally, on February 5, Super Bowl XLVI.
