Bud brews off Jalisco coastline

Having moved up Mexico’s Pacific coast, Hurricane Bud was drawing ever closer to Jalisco as the Reporter went to press.

The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) issued an alert in the states of Jalisco, Colima and Michoacan as Bud was upgraded from a tropical storm to a class three hurricane.

As of Thursday afternoon, Bud was located 405 kilometers southwest of Manzanillo, Colima, moving north-northeast at 15 kilometers per hour (kph). According to the National Weather Service, Bud was bringing sustained winds of 185 kph and gusts of 220 kph.

Although forecast to revert to a tropical storm shortly before reaching land, Bud was expected to bring heavy rain, causing mudslides in coastal areas.

The first effects of the storm were due to hit Jalisco on Friday, with conditions peaking early on Saturday. The weather in Guadalajara was forecast to be cloudy and rainy.
