Chapala marks AIDS day

Chapala marked World AIDS Day on Saturday, December 1 with the town’s second annual Gay Pride Parade and a light-hearted drag queen beauty contest sponsored by the local AIDS prevention council Comusida.

Scores of free condoms were showered on spectators out to watch a small string of parade floats roll along the main avenue. The cross-dressers disembarked at the waterfront and waltzed down the Malecon to La Vela plaza to strut their stuff at the beauty pageant.  A far from frosty contestant dubbed “Alaska” (right) scored high marks from the panel of judges to earn the crown as Miss Comusida 2012.
