The number of people killed in public transport accidents in Guadalajara fell slightly last year, from 55 in 2011 to 49 in 2012.
One person has died almost every week as a result of being hit by buses or other public transport vehicles over the last six years, with an average of 51 deaths per year since 2007. Many of the drivers escape punishment, while families of victims typically do not receive compensation from the drivers or transport companies, nor money to cover funeral costs.
