Peruvian author Alfredo Bryce Echenique will not attend Guadalajara’s International Book Fair (FIL) to receive this year’s grand prize, after the organizing committee rescinded his invitation last week in an attempt to avoid further controversy.
Bryce has been accused of plagiarizing a number of newspaper and magazine articles and the decision to award him the FIL’s Literary Award in Romantic Languages has proved highly polemic, with a number of high-profile writers calling for it to be overturned.
