Consuelo Saizar, president of Mexico’s Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, hands over the official document affirming UNESCO’s recognition of mariachi as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity to Jalisco Culture Secretary Alejandro Cravioto Lebrija.
Joining the dignitaries on the podium in Guadalajara’s Plaza de Liberacion last weekend were budding mariachis from the Jalisco towns of Tamazula de Gordiano and Zapotiltic.
