Finances undermine Youth Olympics bid

Guadalajara’s bid for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games is at risk due to outstanding debts from the 2011 Pan American Games, the head of the latter event’s Organizing Committee (COPAG) admitted this week.

The city still owes 399 million pesos (30 million dollars) to 12 firms involved in the games, including 315 million pesos to one venue builder, revealed COPAG Director Carlos Andrade Garin.  Meanwhile, Mario Vazquez Rana, the president of the the Pan American Sports Organization, has claimed the figure is considerably higher.
