Guadalajara’s public benches have been given an artistic makeover in recent weeks thanks to a new project to brighten up the city.
With a budget of 30,000 pesos and support from the city council, pop art promoter Cabezas Cuadradas has hired 76 artists to paint bright new designs on 76 benches across Guadalajara.
From February to May, the promoters received 300 proposals from street artists, painters and illustrators from across Mexico. Most of the chosen designs were by local artists, because Cabezas Cuadradas lacked the funds to cover transport costs for those based further afield.
