‘Supermoon’ to rise Saturday night

Those of you who like to gaze into the night sky should not go to bed early Saturday.

The full moon will be at its closest to Earth than at any other time this year – an occurrence known scientifically as  a “perigee moon” but more colloquially as a “supermoon.”

According to NASA, this means Saturday’s full moon will be 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than others this year.

The exact moment when the full moon will be at its closet point to Earth will be 10:35 p.m. CT.

While experienced skygazers will no doubt appreciate the bigger/brighter moon, astronomers say that people who rarely look up into the night sky may be disappointed, as they will lack any  reference to notice the difference.
