Regardless of your nationality, your chosen mode of transportation or the place where it is registered, if you drive the public thoroughfares of Jalisco, you’re subject to the state’s Ley de los Servicios de Vialidad, Tránsito y Transporte (traffic law) and its complementary Reglamento (regulations).
Over the next few weeks the Guadalajara Reporter will explore key points of these codes – and some related municipal and federal ordinances – to bridge the language barrier and help foreigners gain a grasp of their rights and obligations.
Since traffic cops (not to be confused with municipal police) are always on the prowl, we’ll start with a look at Title Six of the Reglamento outlining the procedure officers are obliged to follow when pulling you over for a traffic offense.
