Restaurants in Jalisco are hoping for a boom in business during the London 2012 Olympic Games, with more customers coming to watch sports involving Mexican athletes.

Road deaths up

The number of deaths from traffic accidents in Jalisco this year is 15 percent up on 2011, according to figures released by the Jalisco Forensic Science Institute. Between January 1 and June 12, 221 people have died as a result of traffic accidents, compared to 179 in the same time period last year.

Exports growing

In the first three months of 2012 exports from Jalisco were 36 percent higher than in the same period of last year, according to the Jalisco State Information System (Seijal). The total value of exports from January to March this year was 11.5 billion dollars, up from 8.4 billion dollars in 2011.
