Hare Krishna finds comfort zone in city

Ironically located close to Centro Magno and all its materialistic delights is Guadalajara’s second Hare Krishna temple. Built in 2006, the temple is more widely known for its adjacent vegetarian restaurant but now thanks to a changing religious climate, it is becoming one of the city’s most intriguing spiritual hubs. Resident monk Jaya Gadáhara Dása attributes this to the wider exposure Hare Krishna (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) has received in recent years. By participating in the Pre-Parliament of World Religions, throwing an annual peace parade and keeping to their 35-year tradition of offering 1,000 free plates of vegetarian food once a year, the Hare Krishna community is becoming a visible feature of Guadalajara’s spiritual landscape.
