Driving in the dark on the Chapala highway isn’t much fun as everyone knows, but evening shows in Guadalajara can be enjoyed by lakeside residents if they book hotels rooms, inexpensively, online and in advance.
For example, on the popular booking.com website, a comfy double room with an extra large bed at the four-star Mision Carlton Hotel – just a block from the Teatro Diana and facing the pretty Agua Azul Park – is going for 58 dollars on Saturday, December 7, the date of the GetBack show (see story page 5). Call (33) 3614 7272 for phone reservations. A cheaper option four blocks from the theater is the Hostal de Maria bordering a small plaza in the Seis Esquinas neighborhood. Double rooms cost 410 pesos a night. Call (33)3614-6230 to reserve. You’ll even find courtesy copies of the Reporter there.
Another advantage of staying in Guadalajara on a Saturday night is that visitors can wake up the next morning and stroll around a gloriously peaceful city center, free of traffic and smog.
