Shriners working on the railroad

A raffle for two antique quilts made in Western Kentucky in the 1920s and 30s has brought the Lake Chapala Shrine Club’s railroad project 30,000 pesos closer to the goal of 120,000 pesos.

The club’s Loco Motive Train Club is raising the money to build a three-foot-high stone rail bed, security fence and landscaping to make the train, built and donated by David Netherton, into a permanent exhibition at the Gonzalez Gallo Cultural Center (old train station) in Chapala.

Winners of the quilts were Brenda Wyma of Vista del Lago and Bernice Parris of San Antonio Tlayacapan.

The Shriners will be holding more fundraising activities in the near future and looking for private donations for their project.

If you would like to learn more about the project and make donations toward the club’s goals, contact Noble Perry King at (376) 766-5126.
