Irish dancing
Talented Irish dancers will be among several community dance groups to appear at the Teatro Degollado on Monday, October 1 for Gala Danzagora. Irish Dancing de Mexico Guadalajara will present their own version of the famed Lord of The Dance/Riverdance spectacular. Other groups will interpret a version of “Sleeping Beauty.” Tickets for Gala Danzagora cost from 80 to 200 pesos. The show starts at 6 p.m. They can be purchased on Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com.mx, (33) 3818-3800 or at the Teatro Degollado box office.
Government Palace
A new temporary exhibit at the museum inside the Jalisco Government Palace (Palacio de Gobierno) illustrates the meeting of the old and new worlds in a series of extra-large maps, documents, objects and tools.
The first permanent section of the museum opened in April 2011 and features an engaging introduction into the state’s history and culture, featuring interactive information modules, video and animation presentations, educative games for children and colorful displays.
The palace, located in the heart of downtown Guadalajara facing the Plaza de Armas, is best known for its dramatic mural of Mexico’s founding father Miguel Hidaglo, which looms down from the wall hugging the main staircase.
The museum is open Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and on Sundays on holidays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guided tours are available at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Entry is free.
“Explorando las claves de América Latina” (Exploring the keys to Latin America) will remain open until January 2013.
Cabalgata
More than 2,000 horses, 40 horse-drawn carriages (calandrias) and 20 live bands will take part in a huge equestrian parade (cabalgata) through Guadalajara as part of the 46th annual Expo Ganadera (Jalisco livestock fair) on Saturday, October 13.
Local equestrians are welcome to join the parade, which will include all different kinds of horses, ponies and donkeys, leading from the Plaza de Armas down to the fairground at the El Alamo glorieta, where Lazaro Cardenas meets the Chapala highway.
Organized by the Jalisco Livestock Association (UGRJ), the fair runs from October 10 to November 4. See next week’s Reporter for more detailed information on the city’s excellent livestock fair.
