Something nice

Our area is filled with charitable organizations doing their good works for children, animals, students and others. No one can deny the tremendous devotion by volunteers in these organizations but the other day, while watching a young man coming to the aid of someone he didn’t even know, I was reminded how important random acts of kindness are.
You don’t need to join a charity group to make life a little easier or a little happier for someone else. The young man to whom I am referring makes a point of doing something nice for someone each day. It doesn’t have to be a big or expensive thing – just a little something to make things easier – like helping someone over the cobblestones to the curb, helping them open the trunk of their car when their arms are full, finding a chair for someone looking tired, complimenting a friend about a new hairdo or blouse. If you can’t think of anything else, just smile at someone – especially someone you don’t know – or smiling back at someone who smiles at you (some of us seem to have forgotten how). You never know how far that act or that smile will go. Try it for a week … an act of kindness each day. I dare you.
