Another one bites the dust

Some folks moving into the village, supposedly excited about “living in Mexico,” promptly tear down the picturesque and adequate Mexican home they just paid a fortune for to put up one built on “Canadian” or “American” standards.

They chop down the plant life that provides shade and color, put up plain blank grey walls in place of the patterned, arched brick and build what amounts to a box – one with little ventilation or personality. Soon, they will be complaining about their contractor (hired because he speaks English and everyone knows that those who speak English are smarter and more honest than those who don’t), and bitching about their monstrous electric bills incurred while they are running their new water pressure system and air conditioners.

Please, before you tear down a Mexican house simply because it doesn’t look like your condo in Toronto or Dallas, live in it for a year. You might find out that you like it and understand what the trees are for.
