Obituary – March 7, 2014

M. M. “Mac” Argo, III died  February 22 in Jocotepec after a brief illness. He was 70 years old.

Born September 4, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama, Argo was a graduate of Columbia Military Academy and Auburn University, where he obtained a degree in Industrial Management. After joining Argo & Co., the family’s electrical distribution business and Southern Carbon Brush, a carbon brush business, he eventually renamed it Argo Automation and expanded into fabrication of large specialized industrial motors and generators.

After retirement in 2003, Argo moved to Lakeside and pursued his passion for cards, traveling throughout the United States and Mexico competing in bridge and cribbage tournaments. He was active in the Lake Chapala Duplicate Bridge Club as a fine life master player, mentor extraordinaire and director.

Fiercely independent, Argo was a bon vivant who liked seeing new places and meeting new people. He will be remembered by his many friends and family north of the border and his many expatriate and Mexican friends at Lakeside as an avid pilot, a lover of dogs (boxers),  and for golf, a good joke, and spicy chili.

He is survived by two siblings: sister, Sally Hunt (Hod) of Lake Panasoffkee, FL; brother Jim Argo of Birmingham, AL; son Christian Miltenberger (Robyn) of New Orleans, LA; daughter Cynthia Argo (Mason Wood) of New York, NY; son M. M. “Malcolm” Argo, IV (Krystel) of Elberta, AL; daughter Ann Argo of Los Angeles, CA; and five grandchildren Jack, Lilly Claire, Sam, Elizabeth, and Clayton.

There will be a celebration of life at the Duplicate Bridge Club at Sunday, March 16. For more information, call 766-5137.
