Shootout in Chapultepec

Shots were fired in Guadalajara’s trendy Zona Rosa neighborhood on Friday afternoon as agents from the State Attorney General’s Office (PGJEJ) arrested two suspected kidnappers.

The state agents came under fire at around 3 p.m. while pursuing the suspects in a black Nissan Maxima along Lopez Cotilla.

Spanish-language daily Mural reported that two suspects were detained and a third person was treated after being shot.

The incident occurred between General San Martin and Marsella, less than two blocks from Avenida Chapultepec. Two police cars and several civilian vehicles were hit during the firefight and at least twelve .45 caliber cartridges were found at the scene.

Lopez Cotilla was subsequently closed to traffic between Avenida Union/Americas and Chapultepec as agents from Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences cordoned off the area.
