Trump victory could scupper new Jalisco investment, governor says

Investments of more than $US320 million are soon coming Jalisco’s way, Governor Aristoteles Sandoval announced during a short visit to Silicon Valley in California this week.

Among existing companies that will be steeping up their already considerable presence in the state are HP, Intel, Jabil, Sanmina and Flex, he noted.

Not for the first time, Sandoval took the opportunity to express his feelings about the U.S. presidential race, daring his compatriots who have the right to vote to reject Donald Trump’s “discourses of hate.”

Sandoval said many of the companies looking to expand to Jalisco could be put off by the “uncertainty” that would surround a victory by the Republican candidate. Trump has vowed to renegotiate the North american Free Trade Agreement (Nafta) and punish firms that move jobs abroad.

Sandoval was speaking after meeting with directors of Sanmina. The global electronic manufacturers will pump another $US50 million into its Jalisco plant, bringing its workforce to 1,800.

Type A Machines, manufacturers of 3D printers has promised to bring 200 new jobs to the state.
