Jalisco governor makes election plea to expats

Jalisco Governor Aristoteles Sandoval called on his compatriots in the United States to organize themselves to confront any “aggression” that might result from the “discourse of hate” employed by some of the candidates vying to occupy the Oval Office.

In a meeting with expat jaliscienses groups in Chicago, Sandoval urged his “brethren” who are able to vote in the U.S. general election to make sure to exercise that right.  Choose the best option that will not affect the positive advances that been forged between the two nations, he told them.

While in Chicago, the governor inaugurated the new Jalisco Migrants Center, which he said will be “a meeting point” for his countrymen and women. In addition to giving advice on legal matters, the center will also provide “support and coaching” to entrepreneurs from Jalisco who reside in this part of the United States.  Sandoval also opened a second center in Los Angeles on the final leg of his trip.

Other highlights of the governor’s visit included a meeting with Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker in Milwaukee, a city believed to house the fastest growing community of jaliscienses in the United States.  Walker is scheduled to make a reciprocal visit to Jalisco later this month.

Sandoval also met with a group of Mexican “Dreamers,” the young adult illegal immigrants who came to the United States as children and, although now protected from deportation, are still awaiting Congressional approval that will give them their ID cards, work permits and the opportunity to obtain permanent residency and full legal status.
