Carrie Kitchen Hernandez
Former lakeside resident Carrie Alicia Kitchen Hernandez passed away Monday, September 21 in Virginia Beach, Virginia at the age of 38. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones as she succumbed to a long and valiant battle against breast cancer.
Kitchen was born on June 4, 1977, in Virginia Beach, the daughter of John Irving and Sylvia A. Kitchen. She grew up in the Chapala area after settling here with her mother in the early 1980’s. She developed a wide circle of lifetime friends while studying at Oak Hill School and the Preparatoria Regional de Chapala.
She went on to enroll at Keiser University in Florida where she graduated in 2009 as a paralegal. After moving to Virginia to live near her family, she began working for Flowserve Corporation as an aftermarket coordinator.
She married Jorge Hernandez on June 10, 2006. Six years ago the couple welcomed the birth of their beloved daughter named Emma Nicole.
Aside from spending time with her family and friends, Kitchen loved animals, music, travel, camping and any outdoor activity. She will always be remembered for her generosity and kindness to others, an infectious laugh and wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband and young daughter; her mother and brother John Meston and wife Rebecca, all of Suffolk, Virginia; uncle Jorge Rendon of Guadalajara; aunt Rosalinda Rendon of Mexico City; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, John Kitchen; brother Peter Clark Meston and grandmother Alicia Rendon.
A funeral service was scheduled for Friday, September 25, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. Local friends will gather for a celebration of her life Saturday, September 26, 6 p.m., at Las Palmas events center in Riberas del Pilar and a memorial Mass to be held the following day, 10 a.m., at Ajijic’s San Andres Parish.

Dale Harbin
Well-known local realtor Dale “Butch” Harbin has died.
Born October 22, 1945 in Austin, Texas , Harbin grew up in Stephenville, Texas and graduated from Tarleton State University.
He married the love of his life Marley Jane Harbin in December 1964 in the First United Methodist Church of Stephenville.
Harbin owned a new car dealership in Stephenville for many years before he moved with his wife to Port Aransas, Texas, where he worked in real estate.
The call of Mexico came and the couple bought a house in Chapala, where they resided for the past 18 years.
Harbin continued to work in real estate at lakeside but maintained his passion for flying and traveling.
He is survived by his wife Marley Jane Harbin; daughter Shelly Harbin McMillian and son-in-law Tony McMillian of Jasper; sister Melissa Jones of Waco, Texas; and grandson Zachary Harbin Dowell of Dallas, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Harbin was held September 5, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Stephenville.ob
