Mexico’s capital has changed its official name as it starts the process  of becoming a federal state.

The official name is no longer Mexico Distrito Federal (Federal District) but Ciudad de Mexico, or CDMX.  The  change in status will relax the federal government’s powers over the capital and allow it to have its own constitution and congress.
