Autoslalom comes to Chapala July 11

Watch skilled drivers perform dazzling road tricks at Autoslalom competition scheduled for Saturday, July 11 in the heart of downtown Chapala. 

The event is programmed as the final leg of the first annual Rally Sierra-Chapala, a regional championship sponsored by the Club Automovilistico Santiago. 

About 20 rally contestants are expected to get behind the wheels of their customized cars, setting out at 9 a.m. to follow a back-road circuit through the towns of Atoyac, Techague, Union de Guadalupe and San Andres Ixtlan, spaced out in three closed segments. The competitors will then motor on open highways to Chapala for the last lap, consisting of an obstacle course set up on the south end of Avenida Madero. 

The starting time is estimated for 3:30 to 4 p.m. continuing until around 6 p.m. after all drivers have taken individual turns on the course. The rally awards ceremony is set for 8 p.m. 

Both lanes of Madero will be blocked off to through traffic from Avenida Hidalgo to the waterfront.  Spectator viewing areas will be protected by metal barriers. Admission is open to the public free of charge.
