Ajijic man charged for killing girlfriend

Ajijic resident Oswaldo Muñoz Pozos, age 29, has been put behind bars to face criminal charges as the presumed murderer of his girlfriend Eustolia Ramirez Reyes, 28.

The woman’s corpse was discovered Thursday, April 16, buried in the backyard of an abandoned west end Ajijic home where Pozos had been squatting for more than a month.  Relatives of the victim told authorities that she had been missing for several days, fingering Muñoz as the probable killer for his jealously over suspicion of her involvement with another man.

The autopsy report issued by Jalisco’s Forensic Institute indicated that the cause of death was direct strangulation.

Muñoz has been charged with femicide, a hate crime against women that bears stiffer penalties than those handed down for simple intentional homicide. If convicted, the suspect could be sentenced to serve up to 60 years in prison.
