Applications open for health care assistant program

A group of highly qualified registered nurses and educators have designed and developed a physician-sponsored health care assistant program so that bilingual area Mexican men and women can learn professional and health care skills that will prepare them for jobs in private homes, nursing homes and medical offices.

Beginning Saturday, January 17, classes and practice sessions will be conducted in English at the new La Montaña Medical Center. In addition, students will have the opportunity to practice under the guidance of a volunteer registered nurse in several local health care facilities and clinics.

All instruction is free but students will be charged 1,000 pesos to cover the textbook, uniform, blood pressure equipment and other miscellaneous materials.

Classes will be held on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for approximately 22 to 24 weeks. Applications will be accepted and prospective students’ English skills evaluated at the Lake Chapala Society on Saturday, November 22 or Saturday, November 29, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. For more information email This email address is being protected from spambots.
