Chapala firefighters were hailed as local heroes after extinguishing a dangerous blaze that broke out on October 3 at a neighborhood store in Chapala’s crowded Barrio de San Miguel.
The conflagration started when a youngster knocked over a small propane gas tank next to a stove where the proprietress was cooking up dishes for her popular food stall. Prompt response from the fire department prevented the explosion of six gas tanks found on the premises and the spread of the flames to adjacent properties.
