Cyclists undertake 24-hour protest to highlight serious safety concerns

The protest started at noon on Monday and finished the next day at the same time. Around 600  cyclists from the local NGOs took turns to complete 942 laps, covering 472 kilometers.

Organizers say only one minor government official bothered to emerge from the State Palace to talk with protestors, but was unable to give any guarantees about the activists’ demands.

Every time a cyclist is killed on the streets of Guadalajara, Bicicleta Blanca places a white-painted bicycle close to the spot where the person died. Since 2009, 165 cyclists have died in accidents in the metropolitan area.
