Bottlenecks plague Av. Acueducto

The busy two-kilometer stretch runs adjacent to the popular Andares mall and the Puerto de Hierro business and health care complex, as well as several large upmarket residential subdivisions.

The work will be carried out in two stages over 90 days, during which time traffic will flow only in the direction of Patria to the Periferico.
One side of the road will be completed in the first 45 days, after which work will switch to the other side of the six-lane stretch.

Vehicles coming from the Periferico are being rerouted via Juan Palomar y Arias.  To reach Patria from the city beltway, drivers should take Juan Palomar and turn left on Avenida Universidad or Naciones Unidas (see map).

After motorists experienced  severe bottlenecks on the first few days of the work, the Jalisco Transportation Department (Semov) decided to assign officers to all the intersections on Acueducto in a bid to ease the traffic flow.  In particular, they will be hand operating traffic lights according to the volumes of traffic they encounter. Adding to the problem is the fact that Acueducto provides the only access to several subdivisions.

As well as resurfacing the road with hydraulic concrete, the city’s Intermunicpal Water Authority (Siapa) is installing a new drainage system.
The resurfacing work is budgeted at around 40 million pesos, while Siapa has earmarked eight million pesos for the project.
