Chili cookoff bonanza for charities

The success of the 2015 Mexican National Chili Cookoff, held February 27-March 1 at the Tobolandia Water Park, is reflected in a generous pay-out of proceeds split in equal shares among eight lakeside area charitable causes.

Cookoff President Bob Howe presided at a brief ceremony held Wednesday, April 15, at La Bodega Restaurant to hand out checks for 37,875 pesos to officers representing the non-profit organizations, along with assorted medical and firefighting equipment valued at the same amount delivered to Chapala’s  Civil Protection and Firefighters Unit.

Each of the recipients took away slightly over 7,000 pesos more than last year to enable them to continue their worthy activities.

The 2016 chili blow-out is tentatively scheduled for the last weekend of February. Log-on to www.mexicannationalchilicookoff.com for more details about the event and its beneficiaries.
