Major League Baseball coming to Guadalajara?

Mexican businessman Carlos Bremer met with Major League Baseball (MLB) Commissioner Rob Manfred last week to discuss plans to bring the big league to three cities in Mexico in 2017.

Apart from exhibition games, the last MLB game to be played in Mexico was in 1999, in Monterrey.

Under the proposal, Monterrey, along with Guadalajara and Mexico City, would each host a game next year.

Manfred was a guest at the Estadio Fray Nano in Mexico City in late March to see the Houston Astros and the San Diego Padres play two pre-season games.

The Estadio Monterrey, home to the Sultanes, is the country’s biggest baseball stadium, with a capacity for 27,000 spectators.  The Telmex Stadium in Guadalajara, home to  the Charros de Jalisco, holds less than 13,000 in its current format.
